Charles S. Carr from Philadelphia graduated from LaSalle College and has an M.A. in American History from Bryn Mawr College. Charles worked in Social and Community Development services for 45 years. Charles has been a lay missionary for Hands Together raising money to serve the poorest of the poor in Haiti. He has two books of poems paradise, pennsylvania, (Cradle Press, 2009) and Haitian Mudpies and Other Poems, (Moonstone Press, 2013). In 2008, one of Charles’s poems won first place in Mad Poets Review. His poems have been published in local and national print and online poetry journals, For five years Charles hosted the second Tuesday Moonstone Poetry series at Fergie’s Pub. For the past seven years he has been the host of Philly Loves Poetry, a monthly broadcast from Philly CAM. Charles has one son, Evan, and is married to award-winning artist Karen Stabenow. His latest chapbook is Eat This Poem with Moonstone Press.

David Kertis, author of Word of the Day. was born in 1955 and grew up in northern New Jersey. He attended Oberlin College where he studied creative writing with David Young, and has lived in Philadelphia since 1978. He is married and works as a claims adjuster. In Philadelphia, he has studied with Leonard Gontarek and Eleanor Wilner. He has been published on line in Frigate and Apiary and given a number of readings in the Philadelphia area. His book, Word of the Day, has recently been published.
