Trane-ing Poetry Workshop invites writers to explore the John Coltrane’s process of bring social issues to life and how that process can be applied in our own writing practce. In this online class, we dive into the creative process behind several of John Coltrane’s most famous songs, give you the chance to respond to them an tie their creative both to the work of poets including Etheridge Knight, Bob Kaufman, Dudley Randall and Sankichi Tōge. No jazz expertise required, only a willingness to listen and write. We invite you to add the work created here to be submitted into Moonstone’s Remembering Coltrane anthology.

Led by Sheri Davis, Executive Director of the Center for Innovation in Worker Organization at Rutgers and board chair of the National Black Worker Center; Warren C. Longmire, Philadelphia poet, performer and educator, author of Bird/Diz: an erased history of bebop (Bunnie Press);  and John Lavin, jazz percussionist, poet, and Labor Relations professor at Rutgers.
