SUMMARY:Freedom Rhythms
DESCRIPTION:Freedom Rhythms \nSaturday September 12 –  2PM to 5PM\nCommodore Barry Arts & Cultural Center’s Program \n6815 Emlen Street\, Philadelphia\, PA\, 19119 • 215-843-8051 \n“THESE are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will\, in this crisis\, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now\, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny\, like hell\, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us\, that the harder the conflict\, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap\, we esteem too lightly: It is dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to set a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed\, if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated….” \nThomas Paine THE AMERICAN CRISIS\, No. 1\, 1776 Dec. 19\, 1776 — America’s Forgotten Founding Father \nFreedom 250 Years After America’s Revolution \nWhat do poets have to say about this? \nWe’re hosting this event in collaboration with Commodore Barry Arts & Cultural Center’s Program\, including a reading from our Freedom 250? anthology and readings from Philadelphia Poet Laureate and Montgomery County Poets laureates \nDr. Raina J. Leon \nDavid Gines & Chad Frame \nFree & Open to the Public
