Dan Nissenbaum grew up in Philadelphia and learned how to play piano and trumpet at an early age. His exposure to classical, pop and jazz music in his youth led to studies at the Settlement School of Music in addition to various institutions such as Valley Forge Military Academy and the Clef Club of Jazz. He began playing professionally at the age of 15, performing around the city of Philadelphia in various nightclubs and concert venues.
After graduating from high school in 2003, he studied at Berklee College of Music, where he refined his skills in jazz and other styles. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Brass Performance in 2007. He began performing his own music in 2005 and has continued to play solo shows in coffee shops, bars, and night clubs. Dan has played with show bands, brass quintets, big band jazz groups and small jazz ensembles. He has played for weddings and funerals, birthdays and block parties as well as picnics, parades and religious holidays. He currently performs, records and teaches in the Tri-State area and has played extensively in New York and Chicago.
