Robert A. Douglas author of Fertile Concrete
Come out for our open mic night at the Moonstone Arts Center where Robert A. Douglas will perform a few pieces from his book, and students from the PYPM will be performing their pieces as well. This is an event to raise money for the PYPM, so come out to support and purchase your copy of Fertile Concrete. Ask the writer questions and have your book signed. It’s a night you do not want to miss.
Robert A. Douglas has been writing fictional stories, poetry, and song lyrics since his pre-teen years. He works continually to master and breed his particular craft in this art. A graduate of The Baltimore City College High School, Robert currently advocates for seniors with cognitive and developmental disabilities at The Arc of Howard County and helps integrate them into the community. Now, he is the author of Fertile Concrete, a collection of short stories, poems, skits, and interviews to navigate the depths of his soul and the troubling issues he has been forced to face. Alongside writing, Robert has an undying zeal for sharing his story with people via book talks, rap sessions, workshops, and many other venues. Robert resides in Baltimore, Maryland with his fiancée, Ashley, and his daughter, Moriah.
To capture a turbid lifetime between the front and back cover of this book is a herculean effort for a young man. Every sentence speaks to the chasm of youth lost too soon in the absence of safety and family. Robert’s public confrontation of his pain is no small effort; inarguably, some people never get that far, especially by age 22. His story moves the reader to revisit one’s own past, be it to tie up loose ends or to give more authentic thanks for a healthy upbringing, No reader escapes the impulse to revisit the past with a direct and encouraged eye, perhaps now a little older, a little smarter.
