People are talking about “What’s Funny About That?” An Evening of Subversive Comedy, the new and already successful stand-up comedy show featuring the best and funniest local talent. December’s show stars Tom Cassidy, Alex Grubard, N.a. Poe, Joshua Rosen and Phyllis Voren. The shows are presented by Moonstone Arts Center in conjunction with Laughworks. Tom Cassidy <a href=”mailto:cassidycomedy@gmail.com”>cassidycomedy@gmail.com</a> lives in Philadelphia and has worked in clubs in Philly and new york. He’s known for his unique take on observational comedy.
Alex Grubard is a young, experienced comedian from New York City and Massachusetts. Currently he is enrolled in the English department at Temple University, an editorial writer at Campus Philly, a staff member at Catering By Design and a self-employed stand-up comic. He is writing, directing and co-starring in a short film called The Coca-Cola Conspiracy with the Temple Film Collective and he doesn’t have any MONEY.
N.a. Poe <a href=”mailto:NAPOE0@gmail.com”>NAPOE0@gmail.com</a> Poe was born in Roswell, New Mexico. Besides being a Stand-Up Comic, and a part of Occupy Philadelphia, Poe’s THE PANIC HOUR broadcasts the news from a secure underground bunker location.
Joshua Rosen is a 22 year-old Jewish male who lives in the Montgomery county area. He recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and now is doing comedy in the Philadelphia area. You can friend him on Facebook or follow him on twitter @JoshRosen1.
Phyllis Voren has entertained U.S. troops in the Arctic Circle; performed in a Ritz Crackers commercial with Andy Griffith; done improv at The Comedy Store in L.A., and was a regular performer at Dangerfields in NY. She was named Philadelphia’s Funniest Jewish Comic at, what was then, Funnybones on South Street, and has played in clubs and colleges throughout the U.S. After a 15-year hiatus, she’s back onstage doing what she loves most, comedy!
