Antonio N Pisano (1894-1979): His Voice Lives Through His Poetry
Presented by Mario Voci and Donna Yemmallo Meidt (Pisano’s granddaughter)
Tonight we are presenting the poetry of Antonio N Pisano showcased by slides from his hometown of Gasperina, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy. These poems were written over a lifetime from 1910 until 1978. They were published in two Italian-American magazines: Il Divagando and La Follia. Three of his poems were put to music by Gianmaria Griglio of the International Opera Theatre and presented in a program on October 19. 2010 at the Italian Consulate in Philadelphia.
Rosemary Cappello’s poetry has been published in numerous journals, from The Anthology of Women Writing to Voices in Italian Americana. Poet, writer, reviewer, workshop leader, performer, Cappello is the founder, editor and publisher of Philadelphia Poets and as such, organizes readings regularly, featuring poets whose works appear there.
Al Tacconelli’s poetry has appeared in journals and anthologies; has been awarded honorable mention and editor’s choice in te Allen Ginsberg Poetry contest.
Justin Vitiello, of Neapolitan origins, taught Italian and Comparative Literature at temple University in Philadelphia and in Rome. He is a multi-lingual poet and social activist.
