For a reading, discussion and book signing of this major new anthology of readings, this volume brings together a broad range of key writings from the Black Arts Movement of the 1960s and 1970s, among the most significant cultural movements in American history. The editors have provided a substantial introduction outlining the nature, history, and legacy of the Black Arts Movement as well as the principles by which the anthology was assembled. Mentor & Mentored: Vernita Hall studied with J.C. Todd, J.C. Todd studied with Eleanor Wilner

Vernita Hall is winner of Rosemont College’s Thesis of the Year Award, a LaSalle University alumna, second place finisher in the American Literary Review’s Creative Nonfiction Contest, and a Salem College Rita Dove Poetry Award finalist and serves on the poetry editorial board of Philadelphia Stories.

J.C. Todd is author of What Space This Body, her work appears in the Paris Review, The American Poetry Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, and elsewhere. She has received fellowships from Pew, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Leeway Foundation, she teaches at Bryn Mawr College and Rosemont College.

Eleanor Wilner is the author of seven books of poems, including Tourist in Hell and The Girl with Bees in Her Hair; she recently co-edited The Rag-Picker’s Guide to Poetry. Her work is widely anthologized, most recently in The Best American Poetry 2014. Her awards include a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, the Juniper Prize, three Pushcart Prizes, and grants from the NEA and the PA Council on the Arts. She has an interdepartmental Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, and currently teaches for the MFA Program fro Writers at Warren Wilson College.

David Ades is author of Mapping the World. An Australian poet currently living in Pittsburgh, his poems have appeared in Australia & the U.S. in publications including Blast Furnace, Broad River Review, Cyclamens and Swords, Philadelphia Poets, Poetica, as well as in the anthologies Australian Love Poems, The Stars Like Sand: Australian Speculative Poetry.

Ethel Rackin is the author of The Forever Notes and Evening, named a finalist for the 2014 Akron Poetry Prize. Her work has appeared in The American Poetry Review, Colorado Review, Court Green, Evergreen Review, Kestrel, Poetry East, and others. She has taught at Penn State Brandywine, Haverford College and Bucks County Community College.

Elizabeth Savage is author of Jane & Paige or Sister Goose, Grammar, and Idylliad and the current issue of Verse features her Woman Looking at a Vase of Flowers. Her poetry reviews appear in Jacket2 and Kestrel: A Journal of Literature & Art, for which she serves as poetry editor and her articles on contemporary writers appear in Contemporary Women’s writing, Journal of Modern Literature, and Tulsa Studies.
